All Internationals feature machined one-piece aluminum frames, a forged aluminum spool, tempered stainless steel gearing, and sealed stainless steel ball bearings.

In an ongoing quest for product performance improvements, Penn is now rotary tuning its International® drag pressure plates to ensure a more uniform surface finish for the drag system. A state-of-the-art, computer numerical control (CNC) lathe rotationally machines the drag surface of these top quality stainless steel plates to extremely accurate, exacting dimensions. Together with Penn's original, proven (and often imitated) HT100™ drag materials, these precision machined stainless steel plates maximize consistent drag pressure surfaces. Never any high or low spots, inconsistent drag ranges or erratic drag performance. When you push the drag lever from just off free spool, up through strike and on to full drag setting, settings increase gradually and consistently.
